Father Christmas

What is there left to say about Father Christmas other than to restate he is an allegorical figure representing the merry making spirit of the winter season. He is portrayed as differently throughout time and place possibly more than any other such figure. My Father Christmas celebrates the winter landscape and the human connection to it. Father Christmas is anyone's father with his trusty canine friend, the snowy forest trees, little Christmas tree, fire wood, walking stick, and sled are all of a piece. The low golden winter sun enriches the red and green of festive clothes, bringing warmth and a sense of well being. Yes, in our family we wear our Christmas hats and scarves wherever we go, even out to the wood shed and why not! It is the little things, being helpful and generous with our smiles that really does make winter a cheerful season.
