Skiers at Sunset

Some of my most memorable outdoor experiences are skiing into the evening, getting home by twilight. This image of a river valley ablaze with the winter sun gleaming golden on the river captures a moment of being in the right place at the right time. The sky burns extravagantly colorful and then begins to fade to monotones almost in seconds. The temptation here is to ski down into the valley and follow the sun as if it could be captured but the reality is the conditions on the mountain are changing and it's time to turn around and head home.
