The Cherry Blossom Girl
The Cherry Blossom Girl
A little girl is dressed in her spring kimono for Sakura, the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival. She stands among the flowering trees with her higasa for shade. She is happy as only little children can be on special dress up days. The act of celebrating the festival is called Hanami, which literally translates “the viewing of the flowers” and is a cultural symbol of renewal, hope, impermanence, and the beauty of nature. The festival often includes songs, dancing, picnic baskets with food, & drink. At night the festival continues and is called yozakura (night zakura) where paper lanterns are hung on the trees. People all around the world celebrate the phenomenal beauty of blossoming cherry trees.
